PYM General Secretary Thom Jeavons has appointed Gretchen Castle of Doylestown Meeting (PA) as Interim Director for Religious Education. She started work on September 9 and will continue for 4 to 6 months, working three or four days a week.
Gretchen has long been active in religious education on a voluntary basis. She is an organizational consultant working as project director of Friends Board Consulting. Currently she is convener of the PYM Structure Evaluation Project Group.
With PYM Religious Education she will concentrate on support and oversight of the current staff, planning and preparation for the Children's Program for next year's Yearly Meeting sessions, and coordination of volunteers in responding to Monthly Meetings' requests for help with First-day Schools and religious education programs.
While Gretchen fills the vacancy left by the resignation of Director of Religious Education Marty Smith in August, PYM will consider new ways to organize the staffing and services of Education Programs and Religious Education. We hope that may result in even better service to all our Meetings and schools.
