hiladelphia Yearly Meeting this fall disbursed more than $400,000 of tuition aid for almost 400 Quaker children at the 34 Friends elementary and secondary schools in PYM for the 2001-2002 school year. These funds have been matched by an even greater sum from the over 70 monthly meetings and numerous quarters who support their children in attending Friends schools.
Thanks to generations of benefactors, along with the generosity of the Chace and Bequests Granting Groups, PYM expects to provide significant tuition aid again for the 2002-2003 school year for all Quaker families with financial need at Friends schools grades K through 12. Families that expect to apply to their school for financial aid for next year should begin the process of requesting aid. Tuition aid forms will be made available in December to the clerks of all monthly meetings, as well as to the Financial Aid Offices of all K-12 Friends schools. As has been the case in the past, PYM will help to coordinate the scholarship funds for monthly meetings and quarterly meetings in collaboration with the Financial Aid Offices of the various Friends schools.
Friends Education Fund and the Friends Children in Friends Schools Project Group are working on the details of a comprehensive financial aid arrangement intended to enhance the affordability of Friends education for Quaker families for years to come. More information about these efforts will be forthcoming.
