or most Friends, giving is as natural as eating. Yet weve all had the experience of being in a restaurant with unfamiliar items on the menu. The same thing can happen with giving: were not sure what all the choices mean. Fortunately we have a guide in Elizabeth Foley, PYMs Director of Development. Check out the choices on PYM's Giving Menu:
Write a check to the PYM Annual Fund. Better yet, make it a part of your monthly budget.
Make a gift of appreciated stock so you dont need to worry about what you paid for the stock or how much capital gains tax you might have to pay if you sold it. You get a tax deduction for the current market value.
Include PYM and your Monthly Meeting in your will or trust: I leave $______ to Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. For example, if you have been giving $500 to PYM and your Monthly Meeting each year, then you might leave $20,000 which at a 5% return would produce $1,000 per year, your annual support gift after youre gone.
Write a check or give appreciated stock to PYMs Pooled Life Income Fund to benefit PYM or another Friends organization. You can receive the current income rate of the fund for life and get an income tax deduction too.
Write a check or give appreciated stock to PYM as a Charitable Gift Annuity and get an immediate income tax deduction plus a return based on your age. For example, with an initial gift of $25,000 you would get:
Age Rate Annual Annuity Income Charitable Deduction 65 7.0% $1,750 $9,079 70 7.5% $1,875 $10,014 75 8.2% $2,050 $11,002 80 9.2% $2,300 $12,095 85 10.5% $2,625 $12,249 90 12.0% $3,000 $14,454 Create a Charitable Remainder Trust with appreciated stock and bypass any capital gains tax. You get a 5% or larger return which is probably more than your stocks current return, and PYM or your Monthly Meeting gets the principal after youre gone.
Create a Charitable Lead Trust to benefit PYM or your Monthly Meeting now for a period of years up to 20 and give whats left over then to your children or grandchildren.
