OUR MEETINGS

Abington Quarterly Meeting sponsors Middle School Conference

RETURN TO TABLE OF CONTENTS

Abington Quarterly Meeting had its second annual Middle School Conference this summer. Twenty 7th and 8th graders gathered at Fellowship Farm in June for five days of good wholesome fun and worship together.

The Quarter's Junior Friends Conference, for grades 2-6, has continued at George School since 1977. The young people have wanted to extend this experience to middle schoolers. We appreciate the help and encouragement we have received for this program. Counselors were college students and the staff were parents and past leaders of the Junior Friends Conference. With mask-making, an environmental study, cultural study of the Lenape of the region, rhythms from around the world, and a ropes course, the week was full and great fun.

Far from the manicured lawns of George School, Fellowship Farm offered us a great place for our young people to be together. 120 acres of open space gave us an opportunity for hiking, games, swimming pool, a pond, woods and animals to enjoy. It is located outside of Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Started in the 1930s by our Yearly Meeting and now independent, Fellowship Farm is a fine conference center for all ages.

We hope to meet again next June. Middle school is a wonderful and interesting age and time spent with these young people is very special.
