he Treasurers Planning Group has organized a gathering for Meeting treasurers, clerks and other interested members to explore the various issues concerning incorporation of individual Monthly Meetings. This session on Saturday, September 29, at the Fourth and Arch Street Meeting House in Philadelphia is being sponsored by the Financial Services Group of PYM and Friends Fiduciary Corporation.
First on the agenda will be a bit of a census report about how many Meetings are incorporated and how many are not, and how many Meetings have Trustees, followed by some musings as to why PYM has such a variety of Monthly Meeting structures.
After that introduction, more specific issues will be discussed such as: What does a Meeting hope to accomplish by incorporation? What extra duties would be expected by the State? What are the concerns Friends feel regarding incorporation?
Friends from various Meetings which have gone through this process or are in the midst of considering it will be on hand to discuss the issues and concerns raised by their Meetings. On the more practical side, examples of articles of incorporation and bylaws from incorporated Meetings will be available for review as well.
The session is planned for the morning, with registration at 8:30 a.m. (complete with coffee, juice, pastry and bagels), and is expected to conclude by 12 noon. Additional information will have been sent to your Meeting by the time this article appears. We encourage all Friends who are interested or concerned about this issue to attend. If you are planning to join us, please call Connie Brookes at 215-241-7272 or Kathy Reilly at 215-241-7214.
