Associate coordinator of Workcamp Projects
Philadelphia Yearly Meeting
This staff member has the responsibility of organizing and managing many community-related and logistical aspects of workcamp activities. This is full-time work involving many weekends, frequent evening meetings, and occasional week-long events. Work is done chiefly in two places: the Mantua/Belmont community in West Philadelphia and Friends Center in downtown Philadelphia.
Job requirements include:
- Active membership in a spiritual community;
- Experience in working with volunteers (including minors);
- A record of social or religious involvement in the African-American community;
- A valid drivers license and a good driving record;
- Ability successfully to facilitate group discussions about racism and other questions of social justice;
- Skills in ordinary (non-technical) household repair;
- A clear understanding of the mission of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) and comfort with the methods used by Friends to carry out their work in the world;
- A high school diploma, college degree, or equivalent experience.
Salary range is between $26,000 and $30,000 depending on ones qualifications and experience.

Associate secretary
FWCC World Office
Friends World Committee for Consultation is seeking a suitable Friend to serve from June 2002 as associate secretary in the World Office in London, England. The associate secretary works with the general secretary to develop communication and cooperation among Friends around the world. The World Office in London works in partnership with the four Section offices and the Quaker United Nations Offices in Geneva and New York, and carries out work flowing from the FWCC Triennial Meetings and Interim Committee. Considerable travel is involved.
Applicants should have experience of the life of their own Yearly Meeting or group and an active awareness of Quaker faith and practice among Friends of varying backgrounds and traditions.
The appointment will be until June 30, 2004, based on a formal contract which may be considered for renewal. The individual appointed will be eligible to apply for the position of general secretary, which is due to fall vacant in 2004.

Maintenance person
Burlington Meeting House Conference Center (PYM)

Deputy general secretary
American Friends Service Committee
Based in Philadelphia, PA. Responsible for the operations and administration of the American Friends Service Committee. S/he is in charge of all aspects of the organization during the absence/availability of the General Secretary. The Deputy General Secretary is key senior staff responsible for a liaison role with the Board of Directors and Board committees. The Deputy General Secretary helps shape the future vision of AFSC. The Deputy General Secretary supervises the fundamental elements of the business and program operations of AFSC.
Requires: 10 years of experience in a leadership position in a non-profit corporation and supervisory; advanced degree is preferred, bachelors degree is required; a personal belief in the fundamental Quaker commitment to social and economic justice, pacifism and humanitarian aid; demonstrated knowledge and expertise in finance, budgeting, investments and business services; understanding of technology and experience planning and overseeing information systems; expertise in human resource management, including understanding of labor contracts, and volunteer programs; demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.

Senior editor
Friends Journal
In collaboration with the executive editor, selects manuscripts for publication and provides oversight of the technical production of the magazine. Reads and responds to approximately 400 submissions annually. Supervises editorial volunteers and student interns. Collaborates closely with other editors and the art department.
Extensive experience with and knowledge of the Religious Society of Friends is essential. Excellent organizational, editorial, writing and computer skills are required.

Administrative Assistant (part time)

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting is seeking an administrative assistant for General Services to work 21 hours per week. We're looking for someone to work in Philadelphia five days a week, about four hours a day, starting no later than 10 a.m. Your 30 colleagues on the PYM staff at Friends Center will love you for sorting the mail, stocking the office supplies, and keeping the copiers and postage meter running, but the challenging part of your job will be documenting procedures, storing PYM records and preparing for annual sessions.
Requires an organized, flexible self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills, mechanical aptitude with office equipment, knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and databases (MS Office preferred), and some post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
Starting pay about $12 per hour. Benefits include 4 weeks' vacation per year and health coverage 3/5-paid by employer. Center City location convenient to many forms of public transportation.
