Membership on the rise

RETURN TO TABLE OF CONTENTS

For the second year in a row, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting had a net gain of members as reported by Monthly Meeting recorders.

There was a net gain of 5 members in the year 2000. Combined with adjustment for an "undercount" of 18 members in 1999, Meeting recorders are now counting 23 more members than they did a year ago. During 1999, a net gain of 33 members was reported. Statistics were not received from 12 Meetings by the cutoff date; totals assume no change in those Meetings' membership.

As of December 31, 2000, there are 11,815 members, of whom 9,489 are adults, 2,068 are minor members, and 258 are associate members. The growth has been in associate members, a temporary membership category for children which terminates at age 21 unless the youths seek full membership.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting has 105 Monthly Meetings in 13 Quarterly Meetings in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.

The membership statistics will be presented to Yearly Meeting in session on July 19 at DeSales University (formerly Allentown College), Center Valley, Pennsylvania.
