wenty Friends met in the Computer lab at Westtown School on April 7 to learn how to use Quicken® software to keep their Meetings' financial records. Friends Fiduciary Corporation and the Financial Services Group of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting co-sponsored this workshop.
In the morning, Ed Dunlop of Willistown Meeting (PA) showed everyone how to create a chart of accounts, how to enter and pay bills, how to record deposits, how to print checks and how to void checks that printed incorrectly. After being treated to a wonderful lunch by Westtown School, the participants began revising the standard Monthly Meeting chart of accounts that Ed Dunlop had prepared and began creating a chart of accounts that was specific to the needs of their Meeting. Each participant left the workshop with a disk containing the work that they had done during the workshop.
Several staff and volunteers assisted participants as they developed their own chart of accounts. These Friends were Connie Brookes of Haddonfield Meeting (NJ), Executive Director of Friends Fiduciary Corporation; Laura Blaetz of Medford Meeting (NJ), staff for Friends Fiduciary Corporation; Kathy Reilly of Westfield Meeting (NJ), Director of Finance for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting; Branin Boyd Sr. of Westtown Meeting (PA); Janet McMaster of Woodbury Meeting (NJ); and Stephan de la Veaux of Wilmington Meeting (DE).
Anyone who was unable to attend the workshop but who would like a copy of the standard chart of accounts created for Quicken 2001 by Ed Dunlop should contact Kathy Reilly at (215) 241-7214 or kathyr@pym.org or Connie Brookes at (215) 241-7272 or CABFidCorp@aol.com. If enough people are interested, we will schedule a second workshop. Also, if you are interested in an advanced workshop in Quicken or a workshop on Quickbooks® please let us know.
The Treasurers Planning Group will be meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 22, at the Fourth and Arch Street Meeting House in Philadelphia to begin planning for a Treasurers Handbook and for a September 29 open discussion on incorporation of Monthly Meetings. Anyone interested may attend this planning meeting.
