onica Firely started work April 9 as the new data maintenance specialist for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. Her position, formerly called membership secretary, involves maintaining a database of member and attender addresses for mailings such as PYM News, as well as information about Meeting officeholders, committees and working groups, and support for the PYM Nominating Committee.
As the data maintenance specialist, Monica would like to help the various PYM groups, committees and Meetings obtain their goals by maintaining the accuracy of the database.
After practicing as a psychotherapist for several years while working on a degree in clinical psychology, Monica realized that a living wage was a prerequisite to being able to do any good in the world. She then worked as a public relations assistant and office manager for a criminal defense firm while seeking a position with one of the Friends organizations, to which she had felt led for some time. She is an attender at Central Philadelphia Meeting.
