ccording to Consumer's Report, 75 percent of Americans do not have a will. The Development Services Working Group plans to change that statistic among Friends.
A Wills and Estate Planning Seminar is scheduled for the members of Philadelphia Quarterly Meeting from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 25, at Germantown Meeting, 47 W. Coulter Street, Philadelphia. Friends in Abington and Western Quarters felt “well served” by this seminar on previous occasions, and both events were well attended.
It is of the greatest importance that Friends understand how planning their estates can provide protection for children, grandchildren, and elderly loved ones. Planning also preserves our estates for our families and those institutions that we value. Tax laws are continually changing. Friends need to be aware of how these changes impact existing wills and estate plans. Quaker lawyers who specialize in estate law lead these presentations, and will answer your questions.
It is the goal of the Development Services Working Group to assist the members of PYM to either have a will drawn, or to update an existing will. Wills are as important to young adults as they are to the older generation. Without a will, who will decide who will care for your children? Who will decide the disposition of your estate? The answer to these questions is, “the state in which you reside will make these decisions.” Who will make medical decisions for you in the event that you cannot? Who will oversee your finances in the event that you cannot? Bring your questions along on March 25.
