Deep listening is current subject of Pastoral Care Newsletter

RETURN TO TABLE OF CONTENTS

The next issue of the PYM Pastoral Care Newsletter is on "Deep Listening: Applying the Disciplines of an Elder to Pastoral Care." In it, Bob Schmitt of Twin Cities Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, calls our attention to the re-emergence of the role of elder as a way of deepening the ministry of our Quaker Meetings. He is not talking about "elder" as "scold" but as nurturer of the spiritual life of the Meeting. He suggests that the essential disciplines of the elder offer ways in which we might also deepen our ability to offer pastoral care. The issue is due out in March and will also contain information about subscribing to the Pastoral Care Newsletter for next year. To obtain back copies or subscribe, write Steve Gulick, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, 1515 Cherry Street, Philadelphia PA 19102 or e-mail steveg@pym.org.
