State College Meeting will host a Quaker Peace Roundtable on April 6-8 in State College, Pennsylvania.
Discussion will focus on such concerns as:
The Prospects and Problems of "Peacekeeping" in a dangerous world.
New President, New Congress, New Challenges for Quaker Peace Work.
Colombia and other hotspots; Quaker initiatives.
Music and fun as key parts of sustained activism.
Confirmed presenters include:
Joe Volk, Friends Committee on National Legislation
Ron Mock, Center for Peace Learning, George Fox University
Jane Orion Smith, Canadian Friends Service Committee
Val Liveoak, Friends Peace Teams -- Chiapas, Cuba, Colombia
Mary Lord, Peaceful International Conflict Resolution, FCNL
Max Carter, Quaker Leadership Scholars Program, Guilford College
David Jackman and Heather Moix, Quaker United Nations Office
Aaron Fowler and Laura Dungan, Quaker Musicians/Activists, Wichita, Kansas
Mark Walsh, U.S. Army Peacekeeping Institute
In addition, there will be workshops, networking, worship, and music.
Because peace workers often feel isolated, the Roundtable will be a time to come together to share our varied concerns and projects, seek mutual support and encouragement, find new information and insight. We will join in fellowship and worship. Our hope is that together in the Spirit, we may find renewal of energy, greater resolve and deeper grounding for our continuing labors. The 2001 Quaker Peace Roundtable has been endorsed by Baltimore Yearly Meeting, and by Upper Susquehanna Quarterly Meeting of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
