Two working groups under the care of Peace and Concerns Standing Committee have been laid down. They are the AIDS Working Group (and the affiliated Quaker Ministry to Persons with AIDS), and the Friends Conflict Resolution Programs Concerns Group. Interim Meeting on November 30 approved the following Minutes of Appreciation for all persons who served in these two groups.
Minute of Appreciation to AIDS Working Group/Quaker Ministry to Persons with AIDS: Philadelphia Yearly Meeting expresses its deepest appreciation to the volunteers and staff who have participated in the AIDS Working Group and the Quaker Ministry to Persons with AIDS. These groups were laid down this past spring, with other organizations continuing similar efforts to minister to persons with AIDS. It is an appropriate time, therefore, to remember the many individuals who contributed much time and effort to provide such an important ministry on behalf of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
Minute of Appreciation to FCRP Concerns Group: Philadelphia Yearly Meeting expresses its gratitude to the volunteers and staff who have served on the Friends Conflict Resolution Program Concerns Group (and before the implementation of the new PYM structure, on the FCRP Committee). Their many years of service and commitment have enabled individuals and groups in schools, prisons and elsewhere to learn non-violent methods of resolving differences. While the program continues as a service of this Yearly Meeting, the concerns group has been laid down. It is a fitting time, therefore, to indicate our collective appreciation for those who have made this program possible.
Indeed, Caroline Packard of Central Philadelphia Meeting continues as a staff person for Friends Conflict Resolution Programs and a second staff position, Youth Mediation and Conflict Resolution Specialist, is expected to be filled soon.
