At its June meeting, Fiduciarys Board of Directors passed a resolution changing the Corporations name from the Fiduciary Corporation of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends to Friends Fiduciary Corporation.
The Fiduciary Corporation was formed in 1975, the result of the merger of two predecessor corporations: Friends Fiduciary Corporation (from the Orthodox Yearly Meeting) and the Trustees of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends (from the Hicksite Yearly Meeting). For many reasons, it seemed appropriate now to return to the name Friends Fiduciary Corporation.
The most important reason for the change to the new name is that it more immediately identifies our Quaker heritage and affiliation. Also to its credit are the names brevity and the fact that we have always been referred to as "Friends Fiduciary" anyway.
The Hicksite and Orthodox Yearly Meetings, formed by the separation of 1827, reunited in 1955. Friends Fiduciary Corporation manages funds for PYM, its constituent Meetings, and other non-profit, tax-exempt Friends organizations.
On June 13, representatives from 37 constituent Meetings and organizations attended the Corporations Annual Meeting, which included a presentation and discussion on socially responsible investing. We hope that more Friends will take advantage of this yearly opportunity to ask questions and share concerns with members of the Friends Fiduciary Board of Directors. This year's Annual Meeting will be Tuesday, June 12, 2001.
