he Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Library is blessed with a new volunteer who has offered to begin regular bookmobile service to some of the Quarterly Meetings. Clarkson Palmer of Swarthmore Meeting (PA) made his first bookmobile visit to Abington Quarter Meeting on October 1. We are excited about the possibilities this service opens up for reaching distant meetings.
The PYM Library does not have enough staff to deliver books to Quarterly Meetings and still keep the library in Philadelphia operating. The development of bookmobile service will depend on volunteers. Clarkson will not be able to go to every one of the Quarters. It may be that after service is established, local people can take over its continuation. If you would like to become involved as a new bookmobile volunteer, please call the Library. PYM will be pleased to cover travel expenses for mileage, tolls, and parking. If a Quarterly Meeting wants books before we can set up formal bookmobile service, a member can always call the PYM Library and ask for books to be mailed.
If you are interested in starting bookmobile service for your Quarter, contact the library at 215-241-7219 or -7220 or e-mail library@pym.org. Some of the benefits of regular visits include the opportunity to:
- View new additions to the PYM Library and check them out.
- Call ahead and order books, videos or booklists to be brought to the Quarterly Meeting for you to see and decide if you want to borrow them.
- Use the Quarterly Meeting as a drop-off point to return your books, or boxes of books that you had out at your Meeting, similar to the service at Interim Meeting.
