PROGRAMS & OUR MEETINGS

PYM Library work satisfies volunteers

RETURN TO TABLE OF CONTENTS

Would you like to do volunteer work in the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Library? If you are retired, have time to come regularly, and would enjoy being in the library doing quiet, meditative work, please call 215-241-7219. We can make an appointment and I will show you the possibilities. There are many hours of this kind of work which can be soothing, interesting, and satisfying. Some jobs can be done sitting down, some can be moderately active as in shelving books, some use computers, and some don’t. Some of our volunteers have found jobs that “fit,” and they continue to come one or more days a week for many years.

Here are some examples: organizing the cassette tapes, labeling drawers, typing labels in the computer, doing simple data entry in the computer to help with preliminary cataloging, typing booklists, putting pockets and cards in books, covering book jackets with plastic, shelving books, doing shelf reading (checking the shelves for correct shelving), weeding the collection, etc.

There are also more active, lively jobs for extroverts, such as organizing events, making presentations, doing book talks, and taking books to groups.

Travel expenses and lunch will be covered for volunteers who stay for 5 hours or more. For more information, call 215-241-7219 or e-mail library@pym.org.
