riends General Conference has organized a Young Quakes Conference for high school age Friends on the holiday weekend of October 6-9 in the beautiful Illinois Yearly Meeting meetinghouse surrounded by farms in McNabb, Illinois. The theme is "Be not conformed to this world "
Originally conceived as a preparation for the larger YouthQuake conference in late December, the Young Quakes Conference is a religious education conference for any high school age Friend. It's a chance to learn, teach, and find fellowship with Quaker teens from around the country. The program includes Bible study, workshops, speakers, and singing. Jonathan Snipes of PYM will give a workshop and present a dramatic monologue on Elias Hicks. Melanie Watson will speak and lead a workshop as well, working with art and creativity in prayer and spirituality. Elizabeth Lyzenga will lead Bible half hours. The core workshop will be on Basic Quakerism.
The conference registration fee is $85. Some financial assistance is available. For more information and a registration form contact FGC Religious Education Coordinator Michael Gibson at (215) 561-1700 or MichaelG@fgcquaker.org or check out the FGC web site at www.fgcquaker.org.
