he PYM Public Education Working Group has engaged in various activities this year, including hearing from public school advocates and educators about the triumphs and challenges in public schools, supporting Friends who work in public schools through grants for special activities that advance Quaker testimonies, and advocacy for the KEEPS Bill, which would provide significantly more funding for public school systems throughout Pennsylvania.
The KEEPS Bill would shift the major source of funding for public schools to the General Assembly, away from property taxes, and would award school systems extra monies based upon the number of poor children and students with special academic needs. Friends are encouraged to ask their Pennsylvania state representative to support House Bill 2106.
