Mother's Day march on Washington for handgun control is creating excitement among Friends on both sides of the Delaware River.
Salem Quarterly Meeting in New Jersey has minuted its support of the Million Mom March. So did Seaville Meeting (NJ) and Gwynedd Meeting (PA). Several Monthly Meetings are arranging bus transportation to the May 14 march on the National Mall. PYM News has learned of buses planned by Radnor and Chestnut Hill Meetings in Pennsylvania, as well as Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia and Friends in Salem Quarter.
Salem Quarter Coordinator Phil Anthony is supporting organizers from Woodstown Meeting (NJ). Brandywine Region Coordinator Helen Fields is supporting Friends from Schuylkill Meeting (PA).
Every day in the United States, 12 children die from gunshot wounds. The Million Mom March describes itself as "a movement of mothers from all over the country who have joined together to demand sensible gun laws that protect our children." Their goal is enactment this year of federal legislation "requiring licensing with safety training and registration of guns." The march is open to women, men and children.
For more information, you may call the Million Mom March's National Office at 1-888-989-MOMS or visit the website www.millionmommarch.com.
