ungian psychologist Alden Josey will speak about early Quaker James Nayler at 7 p.m. Friday, June 16, at the Fourth and Arch Street Meeting House in Philadelphia. The talk, sponsored by the Outreach Committee for the Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia, is titled "James Nayler: From Light through Darkness to Deliverance, A Psychodrama." Last December, Alden addressed the spiritual journey of Quaker founder George Fox.
James Nayler's so-called "fall" and its impact on the early Quaker movement will be treated as an archetypal drama with implications for who we are as Friends today. The talk is based on Alden's original research in primary source materials, and will include background for those who don't know much about James Nayler. There will be time for questions and discussion. Alden Josey is a Jungian analyst and a member of Alapocas Meeting in Wilmington, Delaware.
