hiladelphia Yearly Meeting's Development Services Group consists of half-a-dozen dedicated Friends who want to help both the Yearly Meeting and its Monthly Meetings raise the resources needed to undertake the good works to which we feel led. Last year they sent every Monthly Meeting a packet of materials that might help the Meetings enrich their conversation about stewardship, and be more comfortable and effective is asking for financial support from members and attenders. This came with an offer of help.
The members of this working group, and the staff, welcome invitations to come lead discussions or workshops, and to speak on these matters. PYM Development Director Elizabeth Foley of Mickleton Meeting (NJ) recently gave a presentation to Haddonfield Meeting (NJ) on "The Meaning of Stewardship for Friends." PYM General Secretary Thomas Jeavons of Swarthmore Meeting (PA) has spoken in several Meetings about "The Spiritual Meaning of Money." Both have helped Meetings envision ways to improve their own fund-raising efforts to support Meeting activities.
So, if your Meeting would like help with fund raising or if you would like someone to come help start and facilitate a lively discussion on stewardship please call the Yearly Meeting Development Office at 215-241-7115. We are eager to be of service.
