hiladelphia Yearly Meeting on March 26 approved with revisions the proposed Minute on Drug Concerns that was published in the last issue of PYM News. The final text is available on the PYM website at www.pym.org.
The minute calls on Friends to explore ways to divert resources away from the violence of the "war on drugs" and toward efforts at prevention of drug abuse. It urges support for Friends working under the weight of this concern.
The Drug Concerns Working Group welcomes participation by others. Contact Greg Barnes at barnes@drexel.edu, Ray Bentman at rbentman@nimbus.temple.edu, or George Willoughby at geowilby@juno.com.
Elizabeth Marsh, clerk of the Peace and Concerns Standing Committee of PYM, said, "This project arose out of the concerns of several Friends in Central Philadelphia Monthly Meeting. It was nurtured within that Meeting, which provided a Support Group for it. It is distinguished as the first project arising out of a fresh leading to come to the oversight of Peace and Concerns since this standing committee was established."
