re you puzzled by the new committee structure of PYM? Have you vaguely heard of Support and Outreach or Aging Concerns Group or Abolition 2000 and wondered what it all means? Have you read articles in the PYM Newsletter and thought about becoming involved with the Middle School Friends Working Group or the Annual Sessions Planning Group? What are the many opportunities awaiting your involvement?
Answers to these and other questions can be found in the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Nominating Committee Handbook. One section contains the purpose, functions, and procedures of the PYM Nominating Committee. The second section describes the offices for which the Nominating Committee provides nominations, including the standing committees. The working groups under the care of the standing committees are listed along with how Friends become part of these working groups.
The committees and working groups of PYM are constantly undergoing change. Therefore the format of the Handbook is loose leaf, allowing it to be updated each year. We will be undertaking the first revision in the next few months, and will be soliciting any suggestions for improvements that will increase its usefulness, not only to the Nominating Committee but to all Friends in PYM.
One copy was sent to each Monthly Meeting. If you have not seen yours, ask your clerk if it is kept in a place available for all to consult. Regional staff also have copies. Friends are welcome to copy all or parts of it, and it is also available in its entirety on the PYM web site www.pym.org.
Check it out and if it doesn't answer your particular question or you have suggestions for changes or additions, please contact me.
