Book signing
The Yearly Meeting Library in cooperation with Friends General Conference Bookstore is sponsoring a book signing/sales event. Scott Savage will give readings from his new book, A Plain Life, during the event from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, at Friends Center, 15th and Cherry streets, Philadelphia. His book is the story of his journey with Conservative Friends in Ohio. Scott is the editor of Plain, a nationally distributed magazine of Amish/Quaker/Luddite ideas. He also edited last year's "The Plain Reader: Essays on Making a Simple Life." Scott is the co-founder of the Center for Plain Living. He organized the Second Luddite Congress in Barnesville, Ohio, where he now resides.
Scott, with his family, has taken radical steps to turn away from a spirit-numbing modern lifestyle and to return to a slower pace that allows spiritual life to thrive in community. His presentation promises to be intriguing, consciousness raising, thought provoking, perhaps disturbing enough to change the course of his listeners toward a more deeply rewarding life path.
Book lists on Internet
e are proud to announce that Mario Cavallini has completed the links for the PYM Library's booklists on the PYM web site. If you have Internet access, you can now reach us at www.pym.org/library. You can look up topics on the index of booklists which will connect you to about 250 individual lists of books, videos and cassettes. These can be printed for First Day School classes, or other special interest groups. You can request books from the lists by phone or e-mail.
PYM Library review
he Support and Outreach Standing Committee is conducting a 6-month, in-depth review of the Library through June. Plans are under way for distributing a survey at Yearly Meeting sessions to determine the direction members would like to see the library take in the next 5 to 10 years. Your response to the survey will be very important in determining the course of the library.
New library staff
e are pleased to welcome Elke Muller who has been hired as the temporary Library Assistant, through June 2000, for the duration of the library review. She will be at the circulation/reference desk full time.
Change in fees
ll members and attenders of the Monthly Meetings of PYM have free borrowing privileges. The annual fee for subscription membership in the library for non-member/attenders has been raised to $50.
