presentation on the architectural evolution of Friends meetinghouses will highlight the spring meeting of Friends Historical Association on Sunday, May 7, at Shrewsbury Meeting in northern New Jersey. Visitors are welcome.
Catherine C. Lavoie will discuss how building design was shaped by programmatic changes and Quaker tenets, such as simplicity, as well as architectural conventions and social movements within the Religious Society of Friends. She is an historian with the Historic American Buildings Survey and the Historic American Engineering Record.
The day begins with meeting for worship at 10:30 a.m. Bring your own lunch. Beverage and dessert will be provided by Shrewsbury Friends. At 1:00 p.m. is the program, "Friends Meeting Houses of the Delaware Valley: The Evolution of a Building Form."
