ritings of early Friends abound with a clear sense of mission and a profound, loving regard for those gathered to participate. What was the starting point for their vital community? To begin to enter into their understanding, we listen with empathy, not intellect alone.
A sensitive examination of early Quaker writings about the Church will be presented by Bob McIvor at the next New Foundation Fellowship seminar April 29 at Plymouth Meeting (PA). Bob is a member of Virginia Beach Monthly Meeting, North Carolina Yearly Meeting (Conservative), since 1998, having attended from 1990. He has spent his adult life in ministry of various kinds, as church pastor, consultant in inner city renewal efforts, Navy chaplain, and now as a director of discipleship. His concern for the powerful life of faith, so evident in early Friends, has brought him into appreciation of the work of New Foundation Fellowship.
The seminar will be Saturday, April 29, at Plymouth Meetinghouse, Germantown and Butler pikes, Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Registration is at 10:00 a.m., and Bob's talk will start at 10:30 a.m. After a brown bag lunch, an afternoon workshop will be facilitated by Terry Wallace of Warrington Monthly Meeting, Baltimore Yearly Meeting. Terry has written about early Friends and traveled to minister throughout the country.
Cost for the day is $10. Child care will be provided, if requested by April 15. For more information and pre-registration, call Pat Dallmann of Upper Dublin Meeting at (215) 699-0446 or e-mail dallmann@icdc.com.
