hat! Another article on the budget? How boring! Well, with budgets, boring is good. It means that everything has gone smoothly and that the Financial Stewardship Committee has been able to keep its commitment to bring a balanced budget to Yearly Meeting in Session in March. This is the budget that, if adopted, will go into effect on July 1, 2000.
Friends should be aware that, with the approval of Interim Meeting, an advance copy of this budget has been mailed to all Monthly and Quarterly Meeting Clerks and Treasurers. The mailing also includes a listing and description of all the Quaker projects and services that this budget supports as well as a description of the year-long process that culminates in the Friday morning, March 24 session of Yearly Meeting.
Friends who desire more financial detail than is provided in the mailing may request the spreadsheet version from Senior Accountant Kathy Reilly at PYM (Phone 215-241-7214 or e-mail kathyr@pym.org). It will also be available at Yearly Meeting on March 24.
The process that began with a survey of Monthly Meetings on priorities for Yearly Meeting work required the participation of many groups-Monthly Meetings, Quarterly Meetings, Working Groups, Standing Committees, staff members, and Interim Meeting all the parts, in fact, of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
The translation of the spiritual leadings of Friends into a spreadsheet budget may seem like a mundane task. In truth, it is not. The commitment, hard work, and prayerful cooperation of all the above groups transforms this task into doing God's work. Please join us at Yearly Meeting on March 24 for the final step in the making of this budget.
