he co-directors of Stratford Friends School in Havertown, Pennsylvania, have been honored with a Sunny Days Award from Sesame Street Parents magazine. Dorothy Flanagan of Media Meeting (PA) and Sandra Howze of Lansdowne Meeting (PA) were recognized in the October 1999 issue of the magazine. Children's Television Workshop established the awards in 1998 to honor heroes who have enriched children's minds and brightened their lives. Stratford Friends School is for students with learning disabilities from preschool through sixth grade. The two educators conceived the idea for the school and it was founded in 1976. Strategies include multisensory learning, use of personal computers, reinforcing children's strengths and encouraging their interests.
Other Friends schools for children with learning differences are The Quaker School at Horsham (PA) and Orchard Friends School in Moorestown, New Jersey, (both elementary) and Delaware Valley Friends School in Paoli, Pennsylvania (grades 7 to 12).
