change in staffing of the Yearly Meeting Library (see Friends Employment Opportunities) has created an opportunity to examine how the Library should be set up and operated to best serve the members and Monthly Meetings of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.
The current Library has essentially run out of space. Should the collection be "weeded"? Should it be relocated? In addition, new technology is changing the contents, circulation patterns and use of all libraries. How should the PYM Library adapt to these realities?
To address these and other concerns relating to the Library, the Support and Outreach Standing Committee has agreed to set up a Library Task Force with Robert Cleaver of Moorestown Meeting (NJ) as its convener. We planned to name the Task Force, including appropriate outside experts, at our meeting January 8. We hope to move fairly quickly on getting the study done and having recommendations upon which to act.
We need to hear from members who use the Library about what is good in the current setup and operation and what can be improved. We need to hear from Friends who don't use the Library why they don't. Since the primary mission of the Library is to serve the members and Meetings of PYM, we need your views. Please send your comments to the Library Task Force, c/o Robert Cleaver, 408 Centerton Road, Mount Laurel NJ 08054-1619.
