s a life-long Friend and as a member of Radnor Monthly Meeting, I am writing to propose an idea to the readers of PYM News. I am a survivor of serious medical difficulties. In the course of my recovery (the past six years) I have found the orthodox American medical establishment to be very effective in treating emergencies, but severely lacking in restoring the balance so necessary to optimal health.
The path of my recovery was circuitous, and sometimes ill-advised, as I chose in many cases to ignore the advice of M.D.s and to seek out alternative therapies on my own. However, in the course of so doing, I accumulated a good deal of practical wisdom and knowledge about the limitations and effectiveness of many different forms of conventional and alternative medicine. I often find myself sharing my experience with others who find themselves confronting issues in some way similar to my own.
It has occurred to me that many Friends may be facing intractable health issues and may be interested in sharing advice on successfully navigating the various forms of complementary therapy available today. I know that I would have benefited tremendously from such a resource at the beginning of my search.
So, if there is interest in a PYM Complementary Medicine Resource Center, or if anyone wishes to share such information, please contact me. For the time being I am willing to function as an information clearinghouse.
Editor's Note: PYM is glad to enable networking among Friends with common concerns. However, a project is not under the care of PYM until it is approved by a Standing Committee.
