STEWARDSHIP

Why It's Called an 'Annual Fund'

RETURN TO TABLE OF CONTENTS

From time to time, we hear from people who are upset that they get more than one mailing a year from PYM's Annual Fund. They assume, since it is called an "Annual Fund," that they should get only one mailing per year. But the adjective "annual" here refers to how the money is used, not the way we ask.

The Annual Fund raises money for PYM's annual operating budget — for annual costs (if you will). This is different from a "capital campaign," which would raise money for buildings, or an endowment fund, which would raise money for an endowment.

The Annual Fund mails to members four times a year both to educate about PYM's programs and services to Monthly Meetings; and to explain the need for financial support to make those programs and services possible. The goal is to help Friends understand how the Yearly Meeting serves them and others, as well as solicit support.

So, that is why you hear from the Annual Fund more than once a year. If you have made a gift and then do not want to get any more mailings in that fiscal year, just let us know, and we will make every effort to accommodate.
