he Interim Meeting of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting has endorsed a minute calling for the abolition of capital punishment in the United States. The minute originated with Pennsdale Meeting (PA) and was approved by Upper Susquehanna Quarterly Meeting on September 11 and by PYM Interim Meeting on October 28.
Arlene Kelly, clerk of the Yearly Meeting, has sent the minute to the governors and U.S. senators of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, the states where PYM has Monthly Meetings. Copies also will be sent to the clerks of Monthly Meetings with encouragement for the Meetings to communicate with state legislators in their area.
