Head of school

United Friends School, an accredited Quaker school of 132 students from preschool through eighth grade, seeks a head of school to begin August 1, 2000. Candidates will find the school dedicated to recognizing and developing the individual student's potential in a community which, by emphasizing simplicity, truthfulness, cooperation and care for one another, encourages the student to understand the dynamic interaction of initiative and responsibility in his life. A community of learners, United Friends School seeks to create a constantly evolving educational experience for students and faculty alike, responsive to a diversity of learning styles and dedicated to learning by doing.
The ideal candidate will be prepared to assume a leadership role in the imminent capital campaign to fund the building of a new school, part of a planned intergenerational learning community with the Quaker health care organization Chandler Hall, and to guide our ongoing curricular evolution, bringing to the discussion enthusiasm and strength in innovative educational vision and practice. In addition, the candidate should have experience in consensus building and group facilitation, the habit of leading from behind, an appreciation for Quaker practice and a sense of humor.

Children's Program Assistant
Philadelphia Yearly Meeting
PYM continues to look for a Children's Program Assistant to work with Religious Education, on an as-needed basis, to plan and implement the Children and Young People's Program during Yearly Meeting Sessions March 23-26, 2000. The new assistant will work with Marty Smith and the Children and Youth at Annual Sessions Group (CYASG) one or two days per week from December 15 through the end of the March sessions. Experience working with children or young people (in First-day, private or public school settings), ideas for children's programs, good organizational and interpersonal skills, and familiarity with Quaker faith and testimonies, are necessary attributes for this position. Young Friends assistant
Philadelphia Yearly Meeting
Philadelphia Yearly Meeting is seeking a person to assist the Young Friends Coordinator in planning, implementing and supervising Young Friends events for high school-age youth. This part-time position begins December 1. Approximately 345 hours will be worked annually, mostly at Young Friends events, divided among a week-long camp event in August, a four-day Christmas week gathering, and four weekend gatherings. We expect that the successful candidate will be a high school graduate; a college degree or equivalent experience is helpful. A driver's license and a good driving record are essential.
The new Young Friends Assistant should have the following qualifications:
- can work well with teen-agers and adult volunteers
- has an understanding of Quaker principles and supports Friends practices
- has good organizational and behavioral management skills
Definite plusses:
- program planning ideas and craft skills in areas of interest to teens
- musical ability

Part-time positions
Westfield Meeting (NJ)
Westfield Meeting in Cinnaminson, New Jersey, is hiring one or two part-time individuals. Each position is approximately 7-10 hours a week and they can be applied for as separate positions or as a combined position.
One position is as Meeting Secretary and involves filing, typing, recording information, handling phone calls, interacting with clerks and committee members, maintaining the Meeting calendar and attending Monthly Meeting for Business.
The other position is Coordinator of Meeting Community and involves strengthening religious education and outreach activities, and maintaining communication with members of Meeting, the school and the wider community.
