YM's Fund for Alcohol and Drug Education (which includes the Alfred C. Porter Fund) has an unusually large accumulation of endowment income for 1999-2000, because this fund has not been utilized to its capacity in several years. Therefore, the Education Granting Group looks forward to providing grants totaling approximately $40,000 for projects and services that promote education about drugs and alcohol. Note: This is a special, one-time opportunity for 1999-2000, after which the annual grants will return to a more typical level of $5,000.
The Education Granting Group will consider applications from: Monthly and Quarterly Meetings; Friends schools; Friends involved with public education; and Friends involved with community-based organizations. The Fund for Alcohol and Drug Education exists to aid Friends setting up programs in Meetings or Friends schools, or otherwise addressing the need for drug and alcohol education. It is important to emphasize that this Fund exists to support and promote projects that focus on education (rather than treatment or intervention, as such).
The application deadline for these funds will be in January 2000. If you have questions or are interested in applying for these funds please contact the Education Granting Group Fund for Alcohol and Drug Education, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, 1515 Cherry Street, Philadelphia PA 19102. Telephone Tom Hoopes, PYM Coordinator of Education, at 215-241-7224 or e-mail tomh@pym.org.
