News & Announcements Mullica Hill Meeting Finds the Gift of a Story PYM NEWS: What’s a shy meeting doing with storytelling? It just seemed to fit. It excited our Meeting. Woodstown Funds Effort to Remove Bombs PYM NEWS: Frank Lenik of Woodstown Meeting (NJ) saw a display at a 2007 surveyors conference that immediately caught his attention: “Buy a Locator; Save a Life.” Having once been in the Peace Corps, a Quaker who “walks the walk,” he became intrigued with finding a way to buy some of these metal detectors for locating land mines in former war zones. Radnor Meeting Supports Philadelphia School PYM NEWS: James Rhoads Elementary School in West Philadelphia has faced the challenges of inner city schools -- a blacktop playground with no equipment, classrooms filled with as many as thirty students, and limited resources for basic necessities such as books. 300th Anniversary for Plymouth Meeting PYM NEWS: Plymouth Meeting (PA) is celebrating its 300th anniversary this year and invites participation in a series of events. Quakers to Support Iraqi Refugee Family PYM NEWS: Quakers from Buckingham, Doylestown, Plumstead, Quakertown (NJ), and Solebury Friends Meetings gathered at Buckingham Friends School for a potluck fundraiser for the group’s project to host a family of Iraqi refugees. An Old Green Building Story: Presentation on Moving the Twelfth Street Meetinghouse PYM NEWS: Charles Hough, long-time George School architect and member of Plymouth Meeting (PA), will tell the story of how the 1812 Meetinghouse on Twelfth Street in Philadelphia was disassembled and moved to the George School campus. Gwynedd Meeting’s Peace Camp Continues PYM NEWS: Plans are underway for the fifth annual Peace Camp at Gwynedd, a summer camp where having fun, making friends and learning to create a more peaceful world blend under the guidance of a talented and caring staff of experienced educators. North Branch Meeting Publishes Cookbook PYM NEWS: North Branch Monthly Meeting (PA), with worship groups near Wilkes-Barre and in the Poconos, has "lived" in rented spaces for more than fifty years. Members and attenders are saving toward a permanent home to shelter Meetings for Worship, community outreach, and living out Quaker testimonies. Haddonfield Series on Racial Justice PYM NEWS: Haddonfield Meeting (NJ) has been holding a series of presentations and discussions relating to racial justice as part of Adult First Day School. These were prepared by the Meeting’s Ad Hoc Group on Racial Justice and Equality, and Religious Education Committee. All interested persons are invited to attend. Media Meeting Offers 2-Hour Worship PYM NEWS: Media Monthly Meeting is called to provide opportunity for extended Meeting For Worship on the third Sunday of each month. Discerning 'God’s Big Idea' for Lancaster MM PYM NEWS: Sixty-five adult members and attenders from Lancaster Meeting (PA) participated in two Saturday retreats in October as the centerpiece of the “Knowing Our Self as a Meeting” program of PYM’s Center for Deepening and Strengthening Our Meetings. Welsh Tract Meetings Observe 325 Years PYM NEWS: Merion, Old Haverford and Radnor Meetings (PA) celebrated different aspects of a Quaker presence during William Penn’s Welcome Week last October. Bucks Quarter Gathers for Play at Buckingham PYM NEWS: Bucks Quarter Friends gathered for a long awaited day of multigenerational music and fun on the campus of Buckingham Friends School last spring. Vacation Bible School - Quaker Style PYM NEWS: “Quaker Fun Days” originated from a desire to offer a Vacation Bible School equivalent for our Quaker kids. Wouldn’t it be fun to get all the kids in Western Quarter together for a week of fun? Southern Quarter Billboard PYM NEWS: An anonymous donor paid for this billboard in Laurel, Delaware, for a full year starting last July. It's visible from southbound Route 13 on the left side of the highway. The Southern Quarter website (DelmarvaQuakers.org) has a supporting peace page. Worship-shop on ‘Faith to Follow’ PYM NEWS: Are you blessed with a leading? Discerning the meaning of a persistent nudge? Or frightened by divine call? If so, you are not alone. “Faith to Follow: Responding to Call” is a “worship-shop” to inspire, encourage, and empower us to step into our individual and corporate calls from God. Gwynedd Friends Coffee House PYM NEWS: Schedule for the upcoming season. Meetings Collect Books for Fairhill Children PYM NEWS: Friends Meetings in the Philadelphia area took part in a fall 2006 book drive to bring high quality books to children in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia near the historic Quaker burial ground. Downingtown Hosts Multi-Meeting Choir PYM NEWS: Downingtown Meeting (PA) assembled this one-time multi-Meeting Quaker choir to help celebrate its 200th anniversary. A Message from Middletown Meeting: How is Our Faith Leading Us to Act? PYM NEWS: Philadelphia Yearly Meeting’s recent called session on our peace testimony demonstrated how far we are from general agreement—let alone unity—in articulating our concerns, both spiritual and activist.
