Federal Rebates: Corporate Witness for Earth?
PYM NEWS: A Friend in my weekday worship group asked if we had considered how we might use the $600 tax rebates being discussed in Congress. Most Friends would prefer to see our government fund education, healthcare, and those in need, rather than give money to citizens to buy more “stuff.” But what if we used these rebates as a witness for the Earth?

Cycling Across Pennsylvania for the Earth
PYM NEWS: This June Quakers will bicycle 300 miles across southern Pennsylvania in a corporate witness for stewardship of the Earth. This EarthQuaker Biketrip is a sustainable (and joyful) travel option for those attending Friends General Conference’s 2008 Summer Gathering in Johnstown.

A Life of Conscience: Objecting to War Taxes
PYM NEWS: Sadsbury Meeting, as host of the fall gathering of Caln Quarterly Meeting, invited Robin Harper of Providence Meeting (PA) to speak about his journey of conscience as a war tax resister. Since 1958, Robin has refused to pay his income tax to IRS, instead conscientiously redistributing the entire amount to agencies working in the community and around the world for peace, social justice and the environment.

Peace 'Consultation' Set for January 2009
PYM NEWS: At the December 2 meeting of the Steering Committee planning for the peace conference approved last summer, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Friends were joined by new committee members from the Church of the Brethren and an observer from the Mennonite Church USA.

Foundation Concerned for Behavioral Health
PYM NEWS: Two years ago, the Board of Friends Hospital entered into a joint venture to infuse capital into the Hospital and concurrently created the Thomas Scattergood Behavioral Health Foundation. The first two years have been successful.
