Much of the Library service to distant borrowers is done by mail. Books are mailed by library rate with mailing instructions and return label enclosed. Borrowers are expected to pay postage both ways.
If you are a member of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, you are already registered, and may borrow books immediately. If you are an attender at a meeting, you may or may not be listed and will need to check with your recording clerk to see if your name has been sent in to the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting record keeper as a regular attender. All others may request to become subscription borrowers by filling out the form below. You will be sent a borrower's packet for registration. There is no charge to Philadelphia Yearly Meeting members and registered regular attenders. For non-Friends or members of other yearly meetings the annual fee is $50.00 payable to the Yearly Meeting Library. The annual fee does not cover fees for borrowing audiovisual materials. New borrowers will be limited to two books at a time.
Interlibrary loan is also an option for non-members, and for members wishing to use restricted items.
Books are normally loaned for a period of one month. They can be renewed by phone, mail, or e-mail. If you renew by mail or e-mail, you may assume the books have been renewed unless you receive a message requesting prompt return. Because of the irregularity of mail, no fines are charged for overdues. If items become overdue, reminders are sent. After two reminders, a bill is sent, under the assumption that the books may be lost. Billing includes replacement and processing. Unless the original cost was higher, hardbacks are charged at $30, paperbacks at $20, or you may send a replacement copy.
Some books in the library have restricted borrowing only. At this time these books are not all marked on the booklists yet. Eventually, when the whole catalog is on line, the call numbers will show which books are restricted.
Elsewhere in this website is an index of our current booklists. There are about 17,000 titles on the shelves and the booklists cover only a part of the collection. Lists of books on other subjects can be compiled upon request.
