PYM General Services Standing Committee New guidelines for organizations requesting grants from the Anna H. and Elizabeth M. Chace Fund.
This is a report to Interim Meeting. The Chace Fund Granting Group is appointed
by Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and is charged with distribution of the income
from the Chace Fund that is not directly distributed by the Yearly Meeting.
It is for the portion of Chace Fund income distributed by the Chace Granting
Group that Guidelines are written for the organizations that request grants.
A copy of the Guidelines which GSSC approved are attached (a pdf of
these guidelines are available here). Changes we noted were improved organization of the material,
change of deadline dates,
specifics
on required attachments, and giving priority to Quaker Meetings and Friends
organizations and to projects within 500 miles of Philadelphia.
Revisions to two Chace policies concerning grants for internal PYM administration and those going to committees of Pendle Hill, AFSC, and PYM.
At a called meeting on 5/29/03 the Chace Granting Group minuted the following policy items that General Services approved on 6/4/03:

Interim Meeting - 26 June 2003
REPORT TO INTERIM MEETING FOR DISCUSSION IN SEPTEMBER 2003
a) Regarding requests for projects to support internal PYM administration (as contrasted to PYM projects that fall within the guidelines):
Chace Granting Group will give full consideration to grant requests for internal management projects for a maximum of 15% of available grant funds in any budget year. This guideline is not construed to interfere with requests for funding PYM programs that are in keeping with our 8 categories: Education, Friends, African Americans or other racial minorities, Native Americans, Peace, Prisons, Youth, and Other Quaker Testimonies.
b) Regarding limits on number of requests and the 3-year $15,000 maximum per tax-exempt organization:
In order to be good stewards of the limited resources available for grants, the proposed draft guidelines restrict any one tax-exempt organization to one grant per year and a maximum of $15,000 over three years. Because of the Chace sisters' stated interest and priorities, we would exempt Pendle Hill, AFSC and PYM from this schedule. (See proposed guideline IV for schedule for PYM committees and working groups)
Interpretive statement - This exemption would allow the Chace Fund to make grants to multiple working groups, committees and programs of PYM, AFSC and Pendle Hill each year. The application schedule and the 3-year funding limit-for these three organizations only-would be tied to separate programs rather than to each organization as a whole.
