Join Paula Tarnapol Whitacre as she speaks about her research and writing of her recent biography of Julia Wilbur, a Quaker abolitionist who in 1862 moved from the hotbed of Northern abolitionism in Rochester, NY, to Alexandria, VA, at the very edge of the Civil War to help African American refugees from enslavement and wounded Union soldiers. Copies of “A Civil Life in an Uncivil Time: Julia Wilbur’s Struggle for Purpose” will be available for sale and signing after the talk.
