2002 WILMINGTON YEARL Y MEETING YOUNG FRIENDS EPISTLE

On July 25, 11 weary travelers descended upon Quaker Knoll camp. Some ripe from their experience at camp in Tennessee, others still recovering from their adventure in Africa.

Friday we joined in the worship sharing groups at Wilmington Friends Meeting where the 111th annual sessions were held and there were engaged in thoughtful discussion. This was preceded in the morning were engaged in a workshop on the relevance of the Friends Peace Testimony today. In the afternoon those who went to Africa joined the Junior Yearly Meeting and shared about their exploits in the Southern hemisphere. Friday evening at the annual USFW /Quaker Men banquet the group received the reports from the Wilmington Yearly Meeting Representatives who attended the FUM Triennial sessions in Africa.

Saturday morning, around 4:00 AM we were aroused by an awesome display ofGods power in the form of a thunderstorm. That continued for 3 hours, which caused us to cancel our annual canoe trip. fu its place we traveled to Dayton, where we visited the mall and played miniature golf. We ended our day with a leisurely evening of pizza and movies.

Sunday t11e group traveled into Wilmington to join in the worship services held at Boyd Auditorium on the Wilmington College Campu, then headed back to Quaker Knoll to wrap things up at t11e Yearly Meeting Picnic.

We, the representing body of Wilmington Yearly Meeting Youth, who assembled for this years sessions were engaged in conversation of a myriad of topics concerning our growth and future as a Yearly Meeting. Out of these conversations we have decided as the Youth, with the assistance of JR Keller (the Director of Youth Ministries), to organize and plan more fund-raising activities to help support and make possible the opportunity for further growth and development of new programs. We hope that with your prayers and support we will continue to grow in number and in spirit.

Respectfully Submitted,

Joy McClelland, Kristin Riffe, Cody Camp, Travis Camp, James Godfrey, JR Keller, Jonathan Hackney, Katrina Frazee, Julie Purtell Tangy Shell and Jon Gilbert.

WILMINGTON YEARLY MEETING of the Religious Society of Friends

Eleven young Quakers met for their Jr. Yearly Meeting sessions during the 111th annual session of Wilmington Yearly Meeting held at Wilmington Friends Meetinghouse. The Yearly Meeting "theme was "The Light Shineth in Darkness." We learned about Arthur Chilson who took the Light of Christ to Kiamosi, Kenya in 1902. We enjoyed pictures and souvenirs brought back by an F.U.M attender. We looked at coins from England and Kenya and then studied the parable of the Lost Coin. We looked at a 5 pound note from England, honouring Elizabeth Gurney Fry. We took a look at Elizabeth's life and ministry-How she brought the Light to Newgate Prison. Two boys entertained us with a puppet show. The group on Saturday walked two blocks to a local grill for lunch. The change from our lunch was donated to the Porta Padre fund. (Wilmington Yearly Meeting is raising money to pay for ceramic tile flooring to be layed in the meetinghouse before their lOOth anniversary, 2004.)

Walking in the Light,

Alex, Chris, Josy, Talliou, Jess. Danni, Andy, Sharah, Loren, Martin, & Joseph
