"Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when
trouble comes. Pray at all times." Roman’s 12.12
Dear Friends Around The World,
Greetings! From North Carolina Junior Yearly Meeting
of the Religious Society of Friends who met at Blue Ridge Assembly in Black
Mountain NC, on August 30 - September 2, 2002.
Our theme was "Walk Cheerfully: Press toward the
mark." We studied about George Fox and the apostle, Paul. Did you know
before Paul became a missionary, he captured Christians an<:l persecuted
them? We made an obstacle course that reminded us that Paul and George Fox
faced many of the same obstacles: going to jail, mission trips, and to keep
them from walking closer to God.
We enjoyed making many crafts. We painted
frogs and turtles. We made sun catchers.
We did bottle sand art. We also sorted beads for our
bead projects. We enjoyed our crafts but we had to accept disappointment, while
trying to be patient with others.
We took our worm float from the obstacle course to the
pool and used it to play with. We had a fantastic time at the pool.
At our business sessions we learned that decisions
take a long time and before you speak you say "Clerk please." We
learned that Quakers believe that business sessions are like worship.
Together, we had fun singing "Running the
Race", "If You Love Me", and "0 -0- Obey O". We also
learned a song from Jamaican Young Friends called "Jesus' Love Is A
Bubblin' Over". We shared these songs at the intergenerational worship
service.
Even though the weather was rainy we had a wonderful
time together!
