Faith & Play Working Group
(of the Children's Spiritual Life Committee)
The Faith & Play Working Group, under the care of the Children's
Spiritual Life Committee and Education Standing Committee of Philadelphia
Yearly Meeting (PYM), supports Friends interested in using Godly
Play® and Faith & Play, stories of Quaker faith and
witness told in the method of Godly Play®. Our
work includes: writing, group editing and testing new Faith & Play
stories; maintaining an informative website www.faithandplay.org (maintained
through FGC); and offering workshops and information sessions about
Godly Play® and Faith & Play to PYM monthly
and quarterly meetings, PYM Friends schools, and at PYM annual sessions.
The Faith & Play Working Group is comprised of Friends from PYM
monthly meetings as well as corresponding members from Baltimore, New
England, and Pacific Yearly Meetings. The group meets 4-5 times a year
at various locations within PYM. The working group grew out of Friend's
interest in and use of Godly Play® in religious
education programs, and members of the working group are trained in
the Godly Play® method. The working group also
has a close relationship to and is supported by Friends General Conference
(FGC) through its Religious Education Coordinator, who is a member of
the working group.
For ideas and information about using Godly
Play® and Faith & Play in religious education, please

Faith And Play: Quaker
Stories For Friends Trained
In The Godly Play (r) Method
BY THE FAITH & PLAY WORKING GROUP OF
PHILADELPHIA YEARLY MEETING
Godly Play®, created by Jerome Berryman, opened
the way for Friends to teach bible stories using a method that
embodies the Quaker idea of continuing revelation, supports multiple
perspectives on a story, encourages silence as a tool within storytelling
and honors the diversity of ways the spirit works within each
person. This curriculum uses the full range of these techniques
to help Friends tell stories of Quaker Faith and Practice. Developed
by the Faith & Play Working Group of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting,
this is a resource that will work best for Friends and children
already acquainted with Godly Play® methods.
