Appreciating Meeting for Business

As a life time Quaker now in my 60s, and not able to attend Quaker meeting because of distance, we attend a Unitarian Church and have participated in their church board meetings for the past 7 years.  I miss the participation of fellow church members and the ideas and wisdom they would bring to the discussion, as done in the Quaker meeting for Business.  Like they say, “you don’t miss it till it is gone.” I have a new found respect and appreciation for the time taken to hold Meeting for Business and to find solutions to various concerns.  If done with respect of each other, there is no other forum which exposes one’s inner thoughts in reference to the concerns and operations of the meeting for business and worship. Not regularly being a part of Quaker meeting, I try to incorporated as many as possible of the Quaker methods into the Unitarian church I attend.  Someday I hope to return to my faith community.  John
