Our mission is to support the adults who nurture children in the ways of non-violence and peacemaking. Through workshops, trainings, inter-generational events, and consultations, we seek to expand the skills and nurture the commitment of caring adults who work with children to develop loving and respectful communities in the present and for the future.

The Work

  • A yearly,  two-day Conflict Resolution/Community Building training for educators in public and private schools. The 2011 training took place on August 11-12. Teachers who wish to enroll in future workshops on bullying should email Grace Cooke at GCooke@pym.org.
  • Three times a year, half-day "Working Sessions"  for our working group members and other interested persons to explore and deepen our understanding of a specific aspect of our work.
  • Training and workshops tailored to meet the need of specific Friends schools, Meeting communities or other organizations requesting our services.

The Opportunity

  • Join the NVC Working Group.  Members are expected to have an affiliation with Friends, experience in working with children, and an interest/experience in leading workshops and training educators. To join the working group please email the clerk, Betsy Berger, at betsyberger@verizon.net.
  • Attend NVC Working Sessions. These are exploratory gatherings, open to the public. For example we organized a session on bullying in which we brainstormed the effects of bullying on the bully, the target, and the community. As a result of this work we developed a pamphlet on bullying for Meetings and schools.

News & Announcements

If the population on Facebook constituted a country, it would be the third most populous country in the world. What does it mean for PYM Friends (and especially our younger Friends) to be in right relationship to Facebook?  and, How is PYM using this amazing tool already?
