Called Session of Yearly Meeting - Feb. 11, 2012
Clerk Thomas Swain opened our Called Session of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Arch Street Meeting House. (This Called Session replaced the previously scheduled February Interim Meeting. )
Paula Cell, clerk of Nominating Committee, presented a report from the Nominating Committee. Meeting approved the report and nominations as presented.
Our current financial situation and efforts to better align our expenses with our income in support of Quaker faith and practice were considered and discussed by the nearly 170 members and attenders present.
Ron Ploeg (Treasurer), Andrew Anderson (Clerk, Financial Stewardship Committee) and Jackie Bowers (Clerk, Financial Oversight Working Group) reviewed yearly meeting finances and answered many questions. TylaAnn Burger (Assistant Treasurer) and Lola Georg (Associate Secretary for Business, Finance and Human Resources) also answered many questions to clarify understanding of yearly meeting finances.
Maia Simon, Trenton MM, shared a minute from the Worship and Care Standing Committee, which asked us to focus our Annual Sessions on worship and Faith and Practice and consider the idea of a year of Sabbath Renewal.
Members and attenders present engaged in lively questions, discussion and discernment of the challenges facing the yearly meeting and opportunities for us to work with each other in a spirit of love and hopefulness.
