Mt Holly Friends Meeting

Mt. Holly Friends Meeting is a vibrant modern congregation of Quakers who gather each Sunday morning for worship in the beautifully preserved Mt. Holly Friends Meetinghouse on High Street in Mt. Holly, New Jersey. Visitors are always warmly welcomed.

Mt. Holly Friends history stretches back to 1682, to being one of the founding congregations of the Yearly Meeting of Friends of the Delaware, later Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. Historic sketch

Throughout the year everyone is welcome to join us for worship in our beautiful - but comfortable - old Meetinghouse, built in 1775. Friends seek that of God in each person, and worship in a direct way without creed or the intervention of either ritual or clergy. We are often led in our worship by enduring principles of Quaker witness - often summed up as "SPICES" - Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship.

At 10 am year round we settle into worship. Quaker worship is held in silence. Each person present silently prays, mediatates, or otherwise waits upon the Divine as each feels is appropriate. Some may feel led to stand and speak to share a thought, recollection, observation, or insight with others who are present. Friends hold that such messages arise from Divine leading..

At 11 o clock, the Friend who has been appointed Head of Meeting for this month will turn and shake hands with the next person, and everyone in the Meetinghouse turns and shakes hands with the person sitting on each side, and Meeting is over. Announcements will be made and visitors made welcome.

Children's Program

Mt. Holly Friends Meeting continues the long Quaker tradition of providing excellent children's program as part of our family worship experience. First Day School - First Day is the traditional Quaker term for Sunday - begins for the children as part of the larger Meeting for Worship.

After a few minutes, children go with their teachers upstairs to their own classroom. There they can participate in a curriculum which combines learning, study, worship, crafts, fun, music, and opportunities to built friendships

Near the end of Meeting, children again join the worship group.

After rise of Meeting, Mt. Holly Friends offer hospitality and serve light refreshments. Members of Meeting will be available to talk with visitors as they also share fellowship with each other. Such gatherings help visitors to get to know Friends, and also build community among Quakers - fellowship helps us know each other, and to share our experiences in the world.

We look forward to sharing Quaker worship and fellowship with other Friends and with visitors at Mt. Holly Friends Meeting. Come join us. Whether you are just interested in learning more about modern Quakers, or if you are seeking a new spiritual home, you will be warmly welcomed.

Mt. Holly Friends Community Outreach
Apple
Festival

Mount Holly Friends Meeting joins many other Quaker Meetings holding 'Fruit Festivals' by occasionally holding an Apple Festival in the fall when the loal fruit is ripe. For both Quakers and our neighbors in Mt Holly and beyond, the festival is fun for all. Everyone enjoys real homemade ice cream and homemade desserts, and good fellowship.

Various related activities can include music, art, children's entertainment, an apple pie contest, and an antiques appraiser.

Historic buildings in Mount Holly are usually open for tours throughout the day.

Mt. Holly Friends Meeting enjoys hosting the community for this event, and strengthening our ties with our neighbors.

An Apple Festival in some years welcomes the larger community to Mt. Holly Friends Meeting.
