Arney's Mount Friends Meeting

Arney's Mount Friends Meeting twice each month provides an opportunity for Quaker worship in a tranquil country setting, away from the built environment that identifies and signals much that is noisy and confusing in the modern world. In the winter, the cheerful roar of the fire in our wood stove provides physical warmth, and also reminds us of the Light within.Visitors are always warmly welcomed, both winter and summer!.

Arney's Mount Friends worship in a traditional country stone meetinghouse, heated by a cheerful wood stove.

On thie seiconid anid fourth Sundays of each month, everyone is welcome to join us for worship in our beautiful - but surprisingly comfortable - old stone Meetinghouse. Friends seek that of God in each person, and worship in a direct way without creed or the intervention of either ritual or clergy. We are often led in our worship by enduring principles of Quaker witness - often summed up as "SPICES" - Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship.

At 10 am year round we settle into worship. Quaker worship is held in silence. Each person present silently prays, mediatates, or otherwise waits upon the Divine as each feels is appropriate. Some may feel led to stand and speak to share a thought, recollection, observation, or insight with others who are present. Friends hold that such messages arise from Divine leading..

At 11 o clock, the Friend who has been appointed Head of Meeting for this month will turn and shake hands with the next person, and everyone in the Meetinghouse turns and shakes hands with the person sitting on each side, and Meeting is over. Announcements will be made and visitors made welcome.

The Stonework of Arney's Mount Friends Meeting

Built of native sandstone quarried from the mount on which it stands, Arney's Mount Meetinghouse has stood since 1775 at the intersection of the road from Mount Holly to Juliustown and the Pemberton-Jobstown Road.

A wall of native sandstone was built around the burying ground in 1860..

After rise of Meeting, Arney's Mount Friends offer hospitality and serve light refreshments. Members of Meeting will be available to talk with visitors as they also share fellowship with each other. Such gatherings help visitors to get to know Friends, and also build community among Quakers - fellowship helps us know each other, and to share our experiences in the world.

We look forward to sharing Quaker worship and fellowship with other Friends and with visitors at Arney's Mount Friends Meeting. Come join us. Whether you are just interested in learning more about modern Quakers, or if you are seeking a new spiritual home, you will be warmly welcomed.
