Annual sessions is the gathering of Friends from all over Philadelphia Yearly Meeting to play together and do the work of our community. Young Friends (who are high school aged – rising 9th through recently graduated) will have our own fantastic gathering within this larger group, including lots of hang-time in the YF lounge, workshops, the hike, and pool time! It’ll be another great Young Friends gathering at Annual Sessions with the added bonus of extra time to really dig into the community –both of Young Friends and of everyone in PYM!
Young Friends have a round-the-clock residential program in which we join the community for many multi-generational activities and have our own age-specific programming for other times. We’ve got time for swimming, workshops, a hike to Glen Onoko Falls, free time, activities with the whole yearly meeting, worship sharing and more!
What to Bring
The following list will give you an idea of what you’ll need to bring for our time together in the Young Friends Program at Annual Sessions. The definitive list will come to you in the Final Details email a few weeks before Annual Sessions begins.
- Clothing: Bring clothes to keep you comfortable in the heat and the AC! Also bring clothes and shoes that are appropriate for things like outdoor play and hiking. Sturdy sneakers or hiking boots are necessary for the Glen Onoko Falls outing, as well as a day pack / bag. You’ll need a bathing suit for the pool and pajamas in which you’ll be comfortable being seen (and others will be comfortable seeing you!).
- Bedding: We sleep in beds with mattresses. Bring a pillow and sheets + blankets or a sleeping bag. This year the Young Friends dorm IS air conditioned, so ditch the fan and bring what you need to be comfortable at night!
- Toiletries: Bring all your regular stuff as well as shower necessities (like a towel!) and sunscreen.
- Other: Flashlight & batteries, games, craft materials and musical instruments are all appropriate to bring along!
Annual Sessions takes place at Muhlenberg College, 2400 W. Chew St. Allentown, PA. Driving and public transit directions are available on the Sessions Location & Directions page. We encourage carpooling and will send out a list of registrants and departure points with the Final Details email in early July. If carpooling and public transit cannot meet your travel needs, get in touch with Hannah to arrange a shuttle by July 13th.
Arrival and Departure
Arrive at Muhlenberg College between 3pm and 4pm, and go to the Seeger’s Union building to check in and get your room assignment. There will be plenty of signs to direct you there and people to help you find your way. You’ll have time to unpack and check out the Young Friends’ lounge space, called the Red Door, where we’ll have games and activities going to welcome you!
When you leave, please find (or have your parents find) and check out with Hannah Mayer, the Young Friends Coordinator.
