Welcome to Children’s Sessions 2012 – Living the Holy Experiment

We’re looking forward to seeing you and your family in July!  We have a great group of volunteers planning our program with many familiar faces returning to teach and play this year.  We will meet in age-based groups in the morning and after lunch - at the same time as the adult plenary sessions.  Rising 4th & 5th grade will be in the Fell group, 2nd & 3rd grade will be in the Fisher group, K-1st grade will be in the Fox group, and kids under 4 years will be in the Fry group!  All of the children's activities will be led by gifted, enthusiastic adults that will be with your child's age-defined group throughout Sessions.

Gathering in Philadelphia this summer gives us a wonderful opportunities for fun and fellowship.    Children’s Sessions will take place at First Reformed Church just a block from Arch Street Meeting.  In the morning, all ages will come together daily for Faith & Play stories as well as a various activities in separate classes.   In the afternoon we will join adults for that last 15 minutes of the afternoon Meeting for Worship for Business.  Before dinner, there will be several family friendly “Holy Experiment” options that you can choose to do together as a family.  Families who are staying in the city can enjoy more time together in Family Neighborhood housing at Temple University.  Convenient buses will take people back and forth from Arch Street to Temple several times a day.  On Saturday Children’s Sessions will journey to Pennsbury, William Penn’s home estate, for active outdoor exploration on a day long field trip.  We are so excited to hold our annual Children’s Summit at Pennsbury this year!

Please consider inviting other families in your meeting or quarter to come to Annual Sessions and be a part of our wider Friends community.  Last summer at the Children’s Summit our amazing Quaker kids discerned “sharing our Quaker faith” as part of our Children’s Priority.  Is this the year for you to invite a family or child from your neighborhood or school to experience the joyful, accepting community we create together each summer and throughout the year?

We will be keeping this Children’s Sessions website up-to-date with any information that might help you in planning and preparing for our time together in July so please come back and visit often.  Closer to Sessions, those who are registered will receive an e-mail with more details about our program.  When you arrive at Sessions you will receive a booklet full of info on our program schedule, Family Neighborhood and suggestions for family friendly Philly food and fun.  Can you say that 3 times fast?

If you have questions, ideas or concerns, please contact Heather Sowers, Children’s Sessions Assistant at any time.  (Some of you may know Heather as the Fishers’ teacher from the last two years at DeSales!)

We look forward to seeing your family this summer!
