It’s reunion season for the Young Friends program, when we invite former Young Friends to visit the PYM Young Friends Christmas Gathering! We’ll be at Newtown Friends Meeting and hope to see many friends home from school or in town on a break from work on Tuesday December 29th anytime between around 1pm (after lunch) through dinner. That will include some free time to see and hang out with current and former Young Friends, as well as a cooking workshop in which leaders will teach us how to make a dish that’s particularly significant in their familial history or cultural tradition. RSVP to Hannah Mayer by December 22nd if you plan to visit on Tuesday and would like to stay for dinner (and include any dietary restrictions!).
Former Young Friends may also be able to engage in the YF Christmas gathering (themed “Culture, Cuisine & Cinema”) at other times by offering a workshop, worship experiment, or even possibly as a Friendly Adult Presence (Friends must have the Coordinator’s approval, be at least 21 and go through a special clearance process to serve as Friendly Adult Presences – contact Hannah as soon as possible if interested). If you can’t make it to visit the Young Friends Christmas Gathering, there are other opportunities to be in PYM Quaker youth community this holiday season! Check out the Young Adult Friends winter retreat, taking place January 8th through 10th at Swarthmore Friends Meeting! Young Adult Friend (or YAF) retreats share many characteristics with Young Friends gatherings, and are designed to accommodate the interests and abilities of young adults more particularly.
The Young Friends community looks forward to welcoming former Young Friends on the afternoon of 29th of December!
